MCS was established in 1974 as the software development division for
IFA Insurance Company, a leading private insurance company in New Jersey.
MCS is a wholly owned subsidiary of IFA Insurance Company.
Back in 1975, after the MCS developers completed the design and
implementation of a proprietary in-house insurance management system for IFA,
the developers were approached by an acquaintance who was a principal
partner of a New Jersey based Food Brokerage company. The name of the brokerage
company was Food Associates and they were in the market for a software solution
to run their business. MCS spent a year consulting with Food Associates regarding
their requirements and in late 1976 the MCS solution was installed on a
Perkin-Elmer mainframe computer in the Food Associates home office.
The original MCS system was written in the COBOL programming language.
That mainframe was almost the size of a Volkswagen Beetle and probably
weighed in at about 500 pounds. We’ve come a long way in 30 years.
MCS sold these systems between 1975 and 1982.
When the PC was introduced in the early 1980’s MCS redesigned the
application to run on Microsoft DOS based PC’s that were networked
with Microsoft or Novell operating systems. We also introduced
our EDI Translator Module with this release.
MCS sold these systems between 1983 and 1994.
In 1995, MCS transitioned the DOS application to Microsoft Windows
and while the code and database were still COBOL based the user interface
became graphical and significantly more sophisticated, as well as easier to use.
MCS sold these systems between 1995 and 2000.
In 1999 MCS partnered with Microsoft to move our development
environment and database exclusively to the Microsoft platform.
COBOL had served its purpose well, but as a development company
we needed to move into the 21ST century. With the assistance
of Microsoft, we completely reengineered the MCS application
with Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft SQL 2000.
MCS SQL was introduced in 2001 and is now considered the
definitive ERP solution for Sales & Marketing agencies in the Food Industry.
We are also proud of the partnerships we have developed
with today's leading technology companies. No single
company can manage the vast, ever changing volume of
hardware and software technology that continues to drive
the way business is done. Our technology partners are
essential in providing us with critical tools and information
that keep our software solutions ahead of the competition.
Below is a brief description of our relationships with
these companies.
